A fine and early Flemish tapestry, dating to the 1600s, exquisitely handwoven in wool and silk with rich vegetal dyes. This piece depicts a dramatic figural scene set within a lush, flowering landscape, framed above and below with floral and architectural borders in the Renaissance manner.
Measuring 8 feet 4 inches high by 4 feet 10 inches wide, it bears a woven signature, marking it as the work of an established workshop of the period. The artistry is evident in the detailed rendering of armor, drapery, and garden motifs, with a palette of deep indigo blues, soft ochres, and verdant greens that retain remarkable vibrancy for its age.
The tapestry is partially lined for stability, with areas of wear consistent with age and use, but overall presenting very well. A rare survival from the early Baroque era, this piece would have once adorned the walls of a grand interior and still conveys that sense of grandeur today.
