A mid 19th century English oil painting on canvas by Henry Jutsum, depicting figures gathered along the banks of a wooded river. Indistinctly signed lower right and inscribed Henry Jutsum verso. Presented in an ornate giltwood and gesso frame.
Artist biography: Henry Jutsum (1816–1869) was an English landscape painter associated with the Norwich School tradition. A pupil of James Stark, he first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1836 and also exhibited at the British Institution. Jutsum worked in both watercolor and oil and was elected a member of the New Watercolour Society in 1843. His landscapes were widely exhibited during his lifetime, and examples of his work are held in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Collection.
Condition: Good antique condition. Surface craquelure and minor paint loss.
